After the tsunami
Following the devastating tsunami in December 2004, we have supported the projects listed below:
- Purchase of a small bus for a disabled children’s home
- Purchase of 5 new fishing boats including nets for a fishing project in Arugambay
- Purchase of a fishing boat including a set of fishing nets and construction of a new home for a fisher’s family
- Construction of a new classroom in a school in Jaffna
- Weekly support of people living in Colombo’s slums by distributing dried milk, medicine, fresh fruit and money
- Purchase of bicycles for 12 boys in need to enable them to attend school
- Payment of the surgery expenses for a young woman with severe burns in her face (newly shaped ears)
- Rental of a room and purchase of 10 sewing machines, providing work for 10 women

All of these projects have been arranged and are supervised by nuns of the different orders or by Thiagu himself.
The highlight of our work to date, however, is a large joint project currently being implemented in cooperation with the Kinderhilfestiftung e.V. (Children’s Aid Foundation), based in the German town of Frankfurt, and the Pattakannu Foundation in Sri Lanka founded by Thiagu.
